Information regarding online access to CUMV databases
The CUMV maintains electronic databases of specimen data for each of its collections using Specify database software. This data is a valuable resource and it available to researchers given the conditions outlined in the CUMV Specimen Data Policy.
Although every effort has been made to maintain accurate specimen
data, the absolute veracity of distributional, ecological, taxonomic
and other such data should not be assumed and Cornell University can
not be held responsible for any errors. In many instances specimen data
have been entered from the original paper catalogs and have not been
verified. Therefore identifications may have been made at the time of
cataloging and taxa may be listed under old names and junior synonyms.
Identifications should be verified by direct inspection of the
specimens whenever possible.
Online access to the CUMV specimen databases uses DiGIR and XML
protocols and is done through the FishNet 2, HerpNET, ORNIS, MaNIS and
GBIF distributed database systems. Please use the appropriate link
below to search for specimen data:
- Search for fish data via the FishNet 2 data portal
- Search for amphibian and reptile data via the HerpNet data portal
- Search for bird data via the ORNIS data portal
- Search for mammal data via the MaNIS data portal
- Search for any vertebrate data via the new VertNet data portal
If you are unable to search for CUMV specimen data via the above links
or require additional information, please contact vertebrates@cornell.edu.
